Elite is not a label based only on wins, rankings, medals, or state placements.
It describes an athlete’s approach to development.
Elite athletes consistently attend their regular practices, train with purpose, accept correction, support their partners, and take responsibility for improving.
Tournament success does not guarantee an invitation. Athletes do not need to be champions to be considered. We are looking for Broad Axe members who demonstrate through their daily habits that they are ready to make productive use of an additional high-level training opportunity.
Elite is not something an athlete claims. It is something their habits demonstrate.
To apply for Broad Axe Elite Training, an athlete must:
Meeting the minimum requirements makes an athlete eligible for consideration. It does not guarantee an invitation.
Elite Training is an additional opportunity—not a replacement for an athlete’s regular Broad Axe program.
Athletes must maintain a minimum of two Broad Axe weeknight practices each week to remain eligible.
Regular Intermediate, Advanced, and combined practices are where athletes build consistency, learn the primary curriculum, develop relationships with teammates, and demonstrate their daily training habits.
The Sunday Elite session builds on that work.
If an athlete’s weeknight attendance falls below the minimum requirement, their Elite participation may be paused until consistent attendance is restored.
Elite Training may include:
Advanced technical instruction
Complete offensive and defensive systems
Position-specific problem-solving
High-intensity drilling
Situational wrestling
Extended live wrestling
Match strategy
Competition preparation
Strength and athletic development
Individual technical feedback
Instruction from guest clinicians
Training with committed partners
The curriculum may change based on the athletes in the room, competition schedules, developmental priorities, and the expertise of visiting clinicians.
Athletes should arrive ready for a demanding, focused two-hour practice.
Coach Jordan Wood leads the Broad Axe Elite Program and helps shape its curriculum, expectations, and training environment.
Throughout the year, Broad Axe may also welcome accomplished guest clinicians who bring different technical systems, competitive experiences, and coaching perspectives into the room.
Guest clinicians will complement Broad Axe’s regular instruction while introducing selected athletes to new details, approaches, and ways of solving wrestling positions.
The coaching staff may consider:
Competition results may be considered as part of an athlete’s overall development, but they do not determine selection.
An athlete with an impressive record is not automatically entitled to an invitation. An athlete without major tournament credentials may be invited because their habits, commitment, readiness, and training needs make the program an appropriate fit.
An Elite invitation is an ongoing opportunity, not a permanent status.
Athletes are expected to continue meeting the program’s standards after being invited.
Participation may be paused or withdrawn because of:
These decisions are made to protect the quality and safety of the room—not to embarrass or punish an athlete.
Step 1: Maintain an Active Membership
The athlete must be an active Broad Axe Wrestling Academy member.
Step 2: Attend Weeknight Practices
The athlete must consistently attend at least two Broad Axe weeknight practices each week.
Step 3: Complete the Gymdesk Application
A parent or guardian should submit the Broad Axe Elite Training application.
Step 4: Coaching Staff Review
The coaching staff will review the athlete’s attendance, training habits, readiness, partner fit, and ability to contribute positively to the room.
Step 5: Invitation Decision
Submitting an application does not authorize an athlete to attend.
Athletes may participate only after receiving a direct invitation from the Broad Axe coaching staff.
Broad Axe Elite Training is for members who want an additional challenge and consistently demonstrate that commitment during the week.
Show up. Work with purpose. Stay coachable. Help your teammates. Keep getting better.
Then apply for the opportunity to take the next step.
